Whats strikes me as interesting is the Germans have a passion for Precision Machining and Industrial and Intelligent Robots on display in Hannover in the same way the Americans love Lifestyle Gadgets at the Customer Electronics Show (CES) and Mexican’s love a party. In fact I received no end of platitudes for Wednesday’s Fiesta a la Mexicana complete with Tequila, Tacos and Mariachis.
Good service with a smile is a struggle for many countries. Our delegation is eternally grateful to the Danes form Siemens who saved out bacon to offer us a ride from Giforn to Hannover when our German coach driver left us stranded. The experience was completed with the Siemens Denmark CEO serving Expresos y Liquors in route.
What are my three key take aways:
1. The Automotive Supply Chain and other clusters are bolstering Mexico’s 4.0 credentials. As a customer and late dear friend once told me. Mexico 4.0 and X Marks the Spot is about providing engineering on a par with Germany and services with a smile that Mexico is famous for.
2. I did not see any serious offerings for 3D Printing on an industrial scale. For example, if we can reproduce human organs in 3D, why are not simple replacement car parts being developed and printed in 3D for the traditional after sale service required at the car agency?
3. The parallel CeMAT fair was all about Warehousing. The Logistics 4.0 movement needs to look at the flow of physical manufactured goods from the digital factory to the digital consumer. Given that Transport Logistics costs are anywhere from 5% to 10% of sales, I would have expected more innovation on display. There were a couple of Uber of Truck Transport platforms which are doomed to failure but no one provides 100% transparency of the process in real time. Well apart from my company, but that is another story.
At the press conference, The Mexican Ambassador and Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe brings to an end our participation.
“The eyes of the entire industrial world will now be turned to Mexico. This partnership is a win-win for everyone and will do much to grow and improve economic relations.”
I am grateful to Inadem y ProMexico for the invitation to form part of the Mexican Mission to the Hannover Messe 2018, the founders that made the week so productive and Germany for the fair. Technology is not about competing with us humans; it’s about assisting us. Finally, I hope that Mexico capitalizes on the good work started with X Marks the Spot and brings strategic results that benefits every Mexican citizen. If anyone is asking, Deutschland Uber Alles is a good bet for the World Cup 2018.
